warm baths

for my mum

When I think of you
It’s sweet rice with brown sugar
Borrowed 90’s fares in high school
Red breakfast bar stools

I opened my eyes to the ceiling
Unfurled like an insect cocooned
Realised I was cupped in the palms of your hands

They formed my home
They pinched my nose
They let me know love
They never let me go

Your head rests next to mine on the pillow
Lavender essential oils billowed
Warm baths while our raw limbs intertwined

You are my brown-eyed stare when I am blind
